Stoke v Sunderland

Stoke could welcome back midfielder Glenn Whelan, who returned to training on Thursday after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Potters boss Tony Pulis has no other injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s match.

Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole returns after completing a three-game ban.

Titus Bramble is doubtful with a hip problem while Wes Brown is ruled out, but fit-again Phil Bardsley could make his first appearance of the season.

Aston Villa v Norwich

Aston Villa may have to face Norwich with only one recognised central defender as Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker are struggling to overcome respective knee and ankle injuries.

Richard Dunne is still out so Matt Lowton could switch to central defence, with Eric Lichaj at right-back.

Norwich manager Chris Hughton has no new injury concerns.

Defender Stephen Whittaker could return next week from a pre-season ankle injury.

Man City v Swansea

Manchester City are again without playmaker David Silva and defender Pablo Zabaleta, both of whom are nursing hamstring injuries.

James Milner serves a one-game ban, while Maicon, Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell are all sidelined.

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has no new fitness concerns ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Laudrup deployed in-form midfielder Michu at centre forward last weekend, and could do so again on Saturday.

Reading v Fulham

Reading forward Noel Hunt could return from the heel injury that kept him out last weekend.

Jem Karacan is out with a knee injury, while manager Brian McDermott must decide whether to play Alex McCarthy or recall Adam Federici in goal.

Fulham winger Damien Duff is available after recovering from illness.

Midfielder Simon Davies is still sidelined with a hip problem but boss Martin Jol otherwise has a fully-fit squad at his disposal.

Arsenal v QPR

Bacary Sagna may return for Arsenal after recovering from a broken leg, while Jack Wilshere could make his first senior appearance for 17 months.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a doubt with a hip problem, and Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Wojciech Szczesny, Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky remain sidelined.

Clint Hill should be available for QPR after overcoming a head injury.

Fabio Da Silva (hamstring) and Kieron Dyer (calf) could be involved, but Park Ji-Sung (knee) is doubtful.

Wigan v West Ham

Wigan winger Ryo Miyaichi is doubtful for Saturday’s game because of a slight groin injury.

Antolin Alcaraz is ruled out with a similar injury, while Albert Crusat is still sidelined by a knee problem.

West Ham defender Joey O’Brien is available after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Matthew Taylor and Guy Demel could return to first-team action shortly, although neither will be involved on Saturday.

Everton v Liverpool

Everton are hopeful Marouane Fellaini (knee) will be fit for Sunday’s Merseyside derby.

Tony Hibbert could return from a calf injury but the Toffees are without Steven Pienaar, who serves a one-match ban for his sending-off against QPR.

Liverpool will check the fitness of Pepe Reina, who is back in training after a hamstring injury.

But Glen Johnson should be fit after coming off at half-time against Anzi Makhachkala.

Chelsea v Man Utd

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is out for two weeks with a calf injury suffered in the midweek defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Blues are without captain John Terry, who is banned for four matches.

Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa has been ruled out for up to four weeks with a knee problem

Defender Chris Smalling is back in training after recovering from a metatarsal injury, but Phil Jones and Anders Lindegaard are still out.

Boss Alan Pardew will recall a number of players rested during Thursday’s Europa League game with Club Brugge.

West Brom may welcome back Chris Brunt and Billy Jones, but Claudio Yacob is doubtful with a hamstring injury.

Jerome Thomas, who has not featured this season because of a knee problem, is also back in training.
